Hillcrest wins big over Arrows

ASHBY — The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy boys baseball team broke out their bats and broke up a close 4-2 game with three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth on way to a 12-4 win over the Ashby Arrows on the road Tuesday.

Jared Christenson led the Comets’ 10 hit offensive production with a single, double and another home run on the year. He crossed the plate four times and knocked in two. Chris Tungseth and Jake Steinle also recorded three RBI, while Connor Aasness scored three times.

Tungseth pitched six innings in a winning effort for the sophomore. He struck out six and allowed five runs in the game.

“It felt really good to break loose with the bats after being handcuffed yesterday in the doubleheader at Wheaton,” said Comet head coach Steve Undseth. “Jared came up big with a three for three game and had a strong game behind the plate. It was fun to see Jake pound the ball in his last at-bat too. It was nice to finally give Chris some offense so he could get a win on the hill as he has lost some low-scoring games this year. He pitched another strong game.”

Reed Hanson led the Arrows at the plate with a triple and a single. Morgan Wing recorded a double and a single. Wing also went four innings for the Arrows and was saddled with the loss.

The Comets are 4-7 in the Pheasant Conference and improve to 5-8 overall. Hillcrest travels to Evansville on Thursday to face off against the Chargers at 5 p.m.
