Letter to the Editor: Musicians encouraged to vote yes May 13 [UPDATED]Published 8:03am Monday, May 12, 2014 Updated 10:04am Monday, May 12, 2014
The Kennedy Secondary School Choir Booster Board encourages people to Vote Yes for the upcoming school referendum.
All project components are necessary. But of special interest to our choir members are the auditorium repairs.
Electrical, light boards and the stage will all be replaced. The auditorium is more than 40 years old and these repairs not only impact the quality of performing arts experiences, but safety concerns too.
As we approach the end of the school year the auditorium will get more frequent use — concerts, prom/grand march and senior awards events are all coming up.
But it isn’t just the school that uses the auditorium. In the past 16 months nearly 20 percent of the auditorium use was by non-school events.
The Fergus Falls Concert Association and other host organizations bring touring groups. In late April Luther College Band toured and performed there.
The performing arts are critical to producing well-rounded young people. It is proven that they do better in school and are more likely to be productive members of our communities.
Even the upcoming year-end senior awards for AAA — Arts, Academics, Athletics — indicates the importance of all three in the lives of our students.
The choir booster board supports this project and encourages you to support youth and the community by voting yes on May 13.
