Memorial crosses for graves available at Senior Center [UPDATED]

Published 7:34am Monday, May 19, 2014 Updated 8:37am Monday, May 19, 2014

Memorial Day is almost here. The Senior Center has a large assortment of wooden crosses for sale. These crosses would be ideal memorials for adorning grave sites.

Examples of various methods of decorating them can be seen on our bulletin board. Call 736-6842 if interested in purchasing one.

The results of the May 9 board election are as follows: Allegra Anderson, Kathleen Barton, Carolyn Englehart, Ginny Paulson, Bea Skramstead, and Jean Zahler. Newly elected officers for the year are: President, Allegra Anderson; Vice President, Vince Thoma; Secretary, Sharon Stevens; Treasurer, Darlene Berge.

A special medication management screening is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 16. Pharmacists from Lake Region Healthcare will be on hand to assist members. Call the Senior Center to schedule an appointment.

A patient information form must be filled out prior to the appointment.

June will feature a movie every Monday at 12:45 p.m. The first, on June 2, will be “Lincoln,” directed by Steven Spielberg. It is a biography of Lincoln’s Civil War years.

“Freedom Riders,” will be shown June 9. Two Ma and Pa Kettle movies will be on June 16 and June 30. “Cinderella Man” will be shown on June 30.

Don’t forget to drop those ideas in the suggestion boxes located on the main and lower levels of the Center. Those suggestions are read at every board meeting.

Thanks to one suggestion, we now have a new handicapped toilet in the lower level bathroom.

A big thank you to all those members who keep our cookie plate filled every day. The coffee snacks or goodies are supplied every month by members whose birthday falls in that particular month. Another big thank you goes to the diligent decorating committee. Their attractive window designs and interior displays are greatly appreciated.

The Center will be closed on Memorial Day. There will be no meal delivery and no noon meal will be served.

Special events:

• Whist Invitational: Park Gardens at the Senior Center at 1 p.m., Friday, June 13. There is no cost to participate and the public is welcome. Prizes will be awarded.

• Duplicate Bridge: 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday

• Concert in the Park: On Thursday, June 12, the Senior Center is working with the Underwood Lion’s Club to serve pork chops at 5:30 p.m. prior to the concert at 6:30 p.m. The park concert is a big fund raiser for the center in June and August.
