Otter boys win Alexandria Invite

ALEXANDRIA — The Fergus Falls boys golf team was firing on all cylinders Tuesday afternoon as the Otters were able to overcome unsavory weather conditions to win the Alexandria Invitational.

The Otters shot a team score of 315, eight strokes ahead of runner-up St. Cloud Tech. Owatona (327) finished in third, while host Alexandria (329) came in fourth.

“The course played about as long as it could today with the wind and down pour that occurred prior to the meet,” Otters’ coach Ben Jurgens said. “Overall, our guys played under control today, which is so important under tough conditions.”

Fergus’ Keaton Lausch placed second at the invite behind Owatona’s Peter Jones (73) shooting a 76.

Teammate Levi Soydara shot a 79, while Ryan Smith and Chris Swenson each shot an 80. Andrew MacFarlane (82) and Dyson Thacker (90) rounded out the scoring for Fergus.

“Keaton was solid and Levi is starting to feel more comfortable. Ryan’s 80 was solid and he is very close to breaking through and going low,” Jurgens said.

The team is especially excited about its performance at the meet because it will return on Thursday to participate in the Central Lakes Conference Championship.

The Otters will tee-off at 4 p.m. at Alexandria Country Club Thursday.
