The Fergus Falls Otter baseball team was able to get in a game Thursday afternoon — but the rust still hasn’t come off.

After exploiting St. Cloud Tech errors, the Otters saw its lead slip away as the Tigers took a 8-4 Central Lakes Conference victory Thursday.

With the game tied 1-1, the Otters were able to cash in on a few throwing errors by the Tigers in the second to take a 3-1 lead.

The Tigers would rebound as it scored a run in the third and followed with three more in the fourth inning.

“That fourth inning kind of did it for them,” Otters’ coach Mark Aho said. “Those innings will always kill your momentum.”

After the Otters plated a run in the fifth, Isaac Matchinsky closed the door hitting a two-run shot over the fence in the top of the sixth.

Zach Thunselle led the Otters at the plate going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Josh Hanson went 3-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.

Matchinsky went 3-for-4 with a run scored, a home run and four RBI to lead St. Cloud Tech and Josh Schaefer went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Austin Klaverkamp earned the victory for Tech, while the Otters’ Jake Lee fell giving up seven runs in six innings of work.

The Otters will look to break into the win column Friday as it travels to Bemidji for a 4 p.m. game.
