An inmate at the Otter Tail County Jail allegedly choked another inmate over a disagreement involving Ramen noodles, according to Fergus Falls police.

Michael Alan Burris, 65, assaulted a 21-year-old man by grabbing his throat and squeezing it. The victim reportedly owed Burris $1 worth of Ramen noodles. The victim did not lose consciousness but had a scratch from the assault.

Burris was cited for misdemeanor fifth-degree assault.

Burris is charged with felony second-degree murder for allegedly shooting his nephew, Scott Burris, two years ago over a $20,000 drug debt. He was arrested last August in Arizona for the murder charge, waived extradition in January and returned to Minnesota following the process of a Governor’s Warrant.

He remains in the Otter Tail County Jail on $1 million bail for the murder charge.
