Lake Region Electric Cooperative met for annual meeting Thursday

Lake Region Electric Cooperative held its annual meeting Thursday evening, June 5, at the New York Mills High School Performing Arts Center.

More than 400 members and friends attended the meeting.

Two incumbent directors were elected by acclamation: Dennis Mathiason from District 2 and Sid Wisness from District 8.

In the contested election for Director District 5, incumbent director Charles Kvare was re-elected over challenger Ron Bratlie. LREC board chair Charles Kvare spoke about the culture of Lake Region Electric Cooperative under the theme “When we work together, we can accomplish great things.”

In his presentation, CEO Tim Thompson explained how LREC has developed innovative energy solutions around new technology by highlighting its new community solar project and launch of an innovative residential LED sales program called EASY-PAY LED Lighting.

Members were invited to attend the co-ops Energy Expo and Open House to be held on June 27, to learn more.

Thompson also presented the recipient of the co-op’s first Power Lineman Veteran’s Scholarship, Sgt. Robert Jindra.

David Saggau, president and CEO of Great River Energy, delivered the keynote address and the Eagles Café of New York Mills catered the meal prior to the business meeting.

The LREC board of directors held an organizational meeting following the annual meeting.

Board officers who remain include: Charles Kvare, chair; Denny Tollefson, vice-chair; Robert Shaw, treasurer; Joyce Valley, secretary. Ken Hendrickx is LREC’s Great River Energy director representative.
