What’s Happening: Christmas in July at Maplewood [UPDATED]

For those who can’t wait five more months, Christmas is coming early at Maplewood State Park this Saturday.

From 10 to 11 a.m., you can make nature-themed Christmas ornaments at the campground host site in the main campground. This family event offers several different ornament choices, with guidance and instruction given for each one. Supplies are limited.

The park is located seven mile east of Pelican Rapids on State Highway 108. For more information, call 218-863-8383.

State Hospital walking tour

Tonight, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Executive Director of the Otter Tail County Historical Society, Chris Schuelke, will presenting “Stories from the State Hospital,” a walking tour of the old Kirkbride building.

The tour will present the history and legends of the institution in storytelling format. It will not cover the architectural aspect, nor that of the facilities.

The fee is $6 a person. Registration is not required. Please park in the Government Services lot and walk over to the westernmost part of the building.
