PELICAN RAPIDS — In a heated battle in the Countryside League, the Fergus Falls Hurricanes were able to hold on to a 2-1 victory over the hosting Pelican Rapids Lakers behind a stellar pitching performance by Kyle Shaikoski.

The game started off as a pitching duel between Shaikoski and Pelican Rapids’ Adam Johnson. The teams remained scoreless through the first four frames as great defensive play was on display.

The ‘Canes were able to break onto the scoreboard in the fifth as a two walks and an error loaded the bases with two outs. Jake Heck would deliver a single to score two runs and give Fergus the lead.

The Lakers would finally touch up Shaikoski in the sixth as Dana Johnson ripped a two-out, RBI single to cut the lead to one.

That would be the last time either team scored as the rivals returned to its strong defensive play for the final three innings.
