Downtown street, alley close this week

Published 11:04am Tuesday, July 1, 2014

Court Street, from Lincoln Avenue, south to the bridge, is closed to traffic for about six weeks. The work started Monday.

Crews will replace utilities and the street pavement as part of the project. The work is one phase of the $930,000 project with the Vernon Avenue work from last season.

Also Monday, the alley between Mill Street and Court was closed to traffic to allow for utility replacement work. The alley is planned to be closed for one week. Only pedestrians using the city parking lot will be able to access the mailbox and utility drop boxes in this area. Access to the parking lot will be provided on Court only from the south at Washington Avenue, by the bridge until the alley work is completed.

After the alley work is done, traffic will be able to use a temporary route through the city parking lot, exiting onto Court at the bridge entrance to the lot. Businesses and residents on the south side of Lincoln from Union Avenue to Mill Street will still be maintained from other directions through city parking lots. Access may change with changes in the ongoing construction operations.
