Fergus Falls, MN DeLagoon Task Force began its meeting Thursday by clarifying its purpose and direction.
Focus was set on three goals: develop a plan for DeLagoon; determine if an aquatic center should be located in DeLagoon; determine the appropriate location for the beach.
“We need to determine,” Parks and Recreation Manager Rick Terway said, “if DeLagoon is the place we want for an aquatic center or not. Is the beach going to stay located where it is or not? We need to make those decisions and give our answer to (Bonestroo Sports, St. Paul, which was hired to prepare an aquatic center proposal).”
The idea of incorporating elements of a water park into the beach was bandied about.
“Has anyone considered revamping the public beach into an aquatic park?” Greg Palmer of the Central Lakes Trail Association asked.
“I’ve spent time thinking about that as well,” Task Force Member Ben Schierer said.
“Why don’t we go with Pebble Lake a couple of years, study the aquatic park and see how Pebble Lake does,” Task Force member Harley Oyloe said.
This was merely a suggestion and not acted on.
The task force decided to keep the beach as it is, finalize the contract with Bonestroo with breakdowns of current and future expenses; tour other aquatic facilities for ideas on how to proceed with the project; invite Blandin Leadership group to make a presentation with ideas for a natural aquatic center and to discuss the possibility of Blandin assisting with a survey.
