1st National Bank building is nearing completion

Published Monday, April 16, 2007

Customers of the 1st National Bank in Ottertail will soon be able to do their banking at the new bank building which will offer greater space and customer convenience.

“We should be all ready for business at the new location by mid-June,” branch manager Doug Bjorklund said. “We’ve outgrown this building. The area is growing, and the new location is a great one.”

The new building, which is under construction at the junction of Hwys. 78 and 108, will have cathedral ceilings and about twice the floor space, as well as increased space in the vault for more safety deposit boxes.

“That’s one of the issues with the space in this bank,” he said. “We only have room for about half the safety deposit boxes we need. We expect to double the number at the new site, with room to grow.”

A fireplace and television set will be installed in the lobby, and new offices are going to be ready to handle the bank’s anticipated growth.

“We’ve already added one new employee that needs a new office,” he said, “and we have an insurance agent and an attorney who will need space when they come out once each week.”

A separate room for the drive-up tellers is also planned.

“It’s a privacy issue,” he said. “We want to be able to allow our drive-up customers to do business with the same sense of privacy they would have if they’d come in to the walk-up windows.”

Also coming are a new drive-up ATM lane and room to expand for added drive-up teller lanes.

All of this is intended to keep ahead of a growing Ottertail and Otter Tail Lake community.

“Otter Tail Lake has been phenomenal,” Bjorklund said. “It is the premier lake in the area.”

A grand opening is tentatively planned for early to mid-July.
