Malfunctioning sirens retested Monday

Published Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Emergency response sirens were sounded at 4:10 p.m. Monday when the city of Fergus Falls and the police department conducted additional tests to confirm operation of two sirens that failed during last week’s statewide tornado drill.

“One of the sirens is near Lakeway Market on County Highway 1,” Otter Tail County 911 Communications Supervisor Judy Siggerud said. “It failed due to electrical problems. The new parts have been ordered, though I’m not sure exactly when they’ll get in.”

When the siren is repaired, there will be another test, Siggerud said.

“We will be notifying the public when we’re ready to do that.”

The other siren, by Pebble Lake, had a loose antenna, she said. “They got that tightened up, and it operated fine yesterday.”

The sirens were tested city-wide Thursday as part of Emergency Preparedness Week. School children and businesses were encouraged to test their emergency drills during the siren test.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
