BATTLE LAKE — Eric Olson’s Otter Tail Central Bulldogs will have a Park Region Conference championship to defend this season.
The Bulldogs, who have put together a string of strong seasons under Olson, were 14-5 overall and 12-2 in conference play last year.
Graduation cost the Bulldogs five players but their returning cast still has plenty of experience.
Manda Olson (infield), Heather Nelson (outfield), Krista Balfanz (outfield) and Mallory Christenson (catcher) will be seniors.
Juniors will include McKenzie Charest (outfield), Kelsey Koep (outfield), Steive Hagen (catcher), Abby Wolden (second base), Laura Trosdahl (second base), Abby Evavold (outfield) and Jen Severs (infield).
Sophomore Sara Houselog will be one of OTC’s most experienced pitchers. The Bulldogs will also have the services of CalieAnn Rittenour, a standout with the Fergus Falls Otters last season. Rittenour recently signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball and compete in rodeo for Iowa Central Community College. The right-hander was Fergus Falls’ No. 1 pitcher in her junior year.
Olson regards Menahga, Verndale, Parkers Prairie and Bertha-Hewitt as top PRC rivals this year. Pine City, Melrose and Staples-Motley all have good shots at the Section 6AA title.
“Our goal is to improve throughout the season and be ready to compete for the Section 6AA crown,” said Olson.
