Our final trip of the year to Chanhassen Dinner Theatre is scheduled for Oct. 17, to see "Les Miserables," the longest runing musical in the world.
This powerfully moving tale is based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo and described as suspenseful from beginning to end as it follows the struggles of man and society with good and evil.
The bus will leave at 7 a.m. from the Walmart parking lot and there will be a coffee stop on the way. There will also be a supper stop on the return trip.
Cost for this trip which includes transportation and dinner theater is $65 for members ($70 non-members). Payment is due in the Senior Center office by Sept. 14.
Activities for the next two weeks include the Roosevelt Park concert on August 9 featuring the jazz piano of Simon Rowe. The food vendor is American National Bank.
On Aug. 17, the Red Hat ladies will meet at Don Pablos for supper at 6 p.m. and then attend the summer musical, "Beauty and the Beast" at the middle school at 7:30 p.m. Registration and payment of $12 for the musical is due in the Senior office by Aug. 10.
The eight-hour Driver Improvement course will be offered on Aug. 15 and 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. (both days) at the public library. Completion of this course allows a 10 percent discount on your auto insurance for a three-year period if you are a Minnesota resident, age 55 or older.
The four-hour refresher course will be offered on Aug. 13 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., and again on Aug. 15 from 1 to 5 p.m.
These Driver Improvement classes are made available through Community Education and payment of $20 (eight-hour class) and $18 (refresher) is due at registration in the Community Education office (998-0544).
Come a little early (11:30 a.m.) for the noon meal at the Senior Center featuring Swiss steak on Aug. 14, and enjoy entertainment by the Wasburg family.
Struggling with the answer to a difficult legal question? Make an appointment (736-6842) to discuss it with Attorney Jay Cichosz who will be at the Senior Center on Aug. 22. Consultation is free.
Finally, for those of you oil painting aficionados: Barb Smith will offer a class at the Senior Center on Aug. 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop in the office to help choose the painting to be completed in this class.
Participants are asked to bring a 16-by-20-inch stretch canvas (Ben Franklin) and Viva paper towels. Paints and brushes will be provided. Cost for the class is $55. Please register by Aug. 17.
