Ethanol plant on target for 2008 opening
Published Tuesday, August 14, 2007
Though the complex is not fully complete, the Otter Tail Ag Enterprises Ethanol Plant will receive corn this fall.
Plant manager Gunner Greene expects the maximum storage capacity of 600,000 bushels will be met quickly.
“We’re on target for our March 1, 2008 target start date,” Greene said. “When the plant is up and running, we will be capable of processing 57,000 bushels of corn a day.”
Groundbreaking on the plant took place last October. The facility, located southwest of Fergus Falls off of County Road 116, is expected to generate $110 million in economic improvement to the Fergus Falls area.
The complex will consist of 12 buildings, including an administration building, processing building and maintenance facility.
The main processing building, where most of the corn conversion takes place, is up. The distilling, dehydration and evaporation building is also in place. The grain receiving equipment is in and toward the end of August, delivery of the distillation columns and evaporator is expected.
“This has been a good summer for construction,” Greene said.
“At this time, OTAE has four administrative employees on staff.”
Hiring for other positions will begin toward the end of November through the end of 2007.
The first hirees will begin the first of the year. About 25 will be hired at that point.
“By March 1, there will be a total of 34 employees,” Greene said.

All for a fuel source that has no future, only increases marginally the price farmers recieve and over inflates the commodities markets. A distinct step forward in another of Bush's long term legacies of incompetance and dithering when coming to the address of critical issues that require sound and lasting solutions.
