Final trip of the season planned to Brainerd for Geritol Frolics

It doesn't seem possible that we are coming to the end of our Senior Citizens trips for 2007, but the last one is scheduled Friday, Oct. 26, when we return to Brainerd for the Geritol Frolics.

This is the enjoyable variety show performed by the senior citizens of the Brainerd area. We will leave at 11:15 a.m. but prior to the show, we will take time out to have lunch at McDonald's.

Then, after the performance, we'll have a buffet supper at the Sawmill Inn and we should be back in Fergus Falls by 8 p.m.

Cost for this trip is $38 for members ($43 non-members). This includes transportation, show ticket and supper at the Sawmill. Payment is due by Oct. 6.

While we are on the subject of trips, the Chanhassen Dinner Theater on Oct. 17 is filled but a waiting list has been started in the event of cancellations.

"Ask the Attorney" with Jay Cichosz has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 29, and there are still two openings for this free service. Call 736-6842 for an appointment.

A couple of important reminders: Don't miss "Senior Safety Day" on Aug. 27. This is a full day of worthwhile information on many aspects of remaining safe and avoiding scams. Attend all or pick and choose those sessions of special interest.

With the prevalence of arthritis among seniors, it becomes more and more important to become familiar with as much information as possible to take control and suffer less pain.

This self-help program begins on Sept. 10, at the Senior Center and continues for six weeks each Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. Register by Sept. 6.

Next Monday is Labor Day. The Senior Center will be closed for all activities, however, a potluck picnic is planned at noon at Roosevelt Park. Bring a dish to pass and enjoy the day.

And a sneak preview: September has been designated as National Senior Center Month.

Of course, we will be celebrating so watch for the line-up of special activities, programs and entertainment coming up next month.

Comments

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
