Viking Valley to host dedicated funds meeting

ASHBY - Viking Valley will play host to a grass roots group of movers and shakers Tuesday night with one aim in mind - putting a winning dedicated funding package on the state ballot in 2008.
Les and Bette Bensch will host a 5:30 p.m. dinner at their hunting club near Eagle Lake that will include local sportsmen, Minnesota State Senate Environment and Natural Resources chairman Satveer Chaudhary, Minnesota Outdoor Heritage Alliance (MOHA) leader Jim Klatt and Don McMillan, past president of Safari Club International.
"We will discuss the dedicated funds that will go on the ballot in 2008," said Les.
We are talking $200 million here if Minnesota voters like what they hear and approve the measure, which would draw a percentage of the sales tax from Minnesota's largest industry - tourism.
The group will endeavor to convince the legislature that a citizen's committee is needed to help determine the distribution of funds to different outdoor projects. Two key areas of concern are the cleaner state waterways and the preservation of wetlands.
