Holiday Train arrives in Elbow Lake

Published Tuesday, December 11, 2007

The Holiday Train — featuring entertainers Tracey Brown, Colin Linden and the acclaimed family duo Ennis — is scheduled to arrive in Elbow Lake about 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Main Street crossing. The train is visiting area communities to raise food, money and awareness for local food banks.

“The Holiday Train is something I’m looking forward to seeing,” said Aaron Olson, a part-time employee at the Elbow Lake Public Library. “There’s lots of other fun things going on this coming Saturday as well.”

The Holiday Train also is making stops in Thief River Falls, Detroit Lakes (4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14) and other communities in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.

“All Aboard for Another Great Season” is the theme for the train stops. This theme coincides with the Elbow Lake Chamber of Commerce theme for other related events on Saturday — “The Special Holiday Event.”

“It’s great that all contributions will benefit the Grant County Food Shelf,” public library director Gail Hedstrom said.

Santa will visit with kids from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Elbow Lake Community Building. Elbow Lake businesses will be hosting open houses Friday and Saturday. Crafts for Kids, Kids Store and Kids in Business runs from 2 to 4 p.m.

Also in the Community Building, starting at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, is a movie, “Polar Express,” sponsored by the Thorson Memorial Library.

Bingo will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the Elbow Lake Lions Supper will be held in the Community Building form 5 to 7 p.m. Buggy rises will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Treats and beverages Saturday will be sponsored by ELEAH Auxiliary.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
