Sisters give birth just 33 minutes apart
Fathers of baby girls are brothers
Published Friday, December 28, 2007
Christmas joy and astonishment were rolled into one this holiday season for Jill and Jeremy Evavold and Missy and Jeff Evavold of Ashby who are the proud parents of daughters Avery and Emily — born only 33 minutes apart on Dec. 14.
What makes this story especially unique is that Jill and Missy are sisters who are married to two brothers, Jeremy and Jeff. Another twist in the story is that the mothers’ sister-in-law, Danza Johnsrud (wife of their brother, Troy), is a nurse at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria and helped deliver the babies.
“My due date was Christmas Day and Missy’s due date was Jan. 2, so we never dreamed delivery even one or two days apart would be possible,” Jill said.
Things changed when doctors planned to induce labor for Jill on Dec. 14. When Missy developed low amniotic fluid, doctors hospitalized her the evening of Dec. 13. The next day, doctors also prescribed labor inducement for Missy.
Both Jill and Missy had the same physician, Dr. Ross Anderson, who performed both deliveries.
“Dr. Anderson was as astounded as we were,” Jill said.
Jill’s husband, Jeremy, said the medical staff at Douglas County Hospital couldn’t remember, or find anything on file, similar to the events of Dec. 14 in the maternity ward.
“Our entire families still are amazed, even after 13 days,” Missy said Thursday afternoon at her home north of Ashby. “It’s nice to be close to family, and Jeremy and Jill live right in Ashby.”
The parents of Jill and Missy are Richard and Mary Johnsrud and the parents of Jeremy and Jeff are James and Bonita Evavold, all of Ashby. Jeremy and Jill have three other daughters. It was the first child for Jeff and Missy.
Jeremy and Jill’s daughter, Avery, weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces and was 17-1/2 inches long. Jeff and Missy’s daughter, Emily, weighed 3 pounds, 7 ounces and was 17 inches in length.
The fathers, Jeremy and Jeff, both work for H&R Construction in Dalton. Jill is head cook for Ashby Public School and Missy works from her home as an employee with the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by cheryl771 (anonymous) on January 2, 2008 at 8:20 a.m. (Suggest removal)
You mentioned there was no record of sisters giving birth on the same day before. My husband, Greg, and his cousin, Dennis, were both born October 4, 1951 and their mothers are sisters. Their names are Adelheid Lindquist and Lucille Lafferty. Maiden names of Froemming.
Thanks..
