Governor’s ride cancelled because of lack of snow

Published 12:00 p.m., February 10, 2007

Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s decision to cancel his trip to Fergus Falls this week was due entirely to the poor conditions for a planned snowmobile ride, the governor’s spokesman said Friday.

The Journal reported Thursday that the governor had canceled his trip, and also reported that he planned to speak at a political event in Michigan over the weekend. However, the two events are unrelated, Director of Communications and Citizen Outreach Brian McClung said in an e-mail to The Journal on Friday.

“The governor had planned to attend events in Fergus Falls on Friday and then return to the Twin Cities before later traveling to Michigan over the weekend,” McClung wrote.

“… When Explore Minnesota Tourism officials notified the governor’s office that the snowmobile ride would be cancelled due to a lack of snow, our office decided that it would not be a proper use of taxpayer resources for the governor to fly to Fergus Falls under those circumstances,” McClung wrote.
