Fergus city street crew is prepared for snow

Published Saturday, February 24, 2007

The Fergus Falls Public Works department was preparing Friday to stay ahead of this weekend’s anticipated eight to 10 inches of snow.

“We are fully aware of the weather, though some say we’re going to be on the edge of it,” public works Director Clifton Allen said Friday.

Friday afternoon, weather forecasts were predicting a 30-percent chance of the snow, which was expected to begin at about 5 p.m. and continue today, with an 80-percent chance of snow, and into Sunday. Temperatures were expected to remain below freezing during the day and dip into the teens overnight.

“We are preparing now and have applied the magnesium chloride as an anti-icing agent to the critical areas on the roadways, like the bridge decks, steeper slopes and primary roads,” he said.

Fergus Falls road equipment is ready, and personnel have been notified of the possibility of added road surface work.

“Our trucks and rigs are all fueled up, loaded with sand and salt and ready to go, and we have plenty of staff ready,” Allen said. “It’s up to the weather now, to see how we react to this, as we always do.”
