Students earn A+ in spelling
Published Thursday, January 25, 2007
The Middle School’s spelling bee yesterday lasted 10 grueling rounds. The winning word, spelled correctly by Kylie Janssen, was “pinnate”. Joe Larson came in second place, and Rachel Hunter placed third.
All three students are now eligible to proceed to the regional spelling bee, held Feb. 22 at Fergus Falls Middle School. At least 45 students from Lakes County Service Cooperative Schools will be participating. The top two spellers from that event will go on to multi-regionals, held in St. Cloud.
Spelling bees are hosted by participating schools, and funded by local newspapers. Multi-regionals will be held in St. Cloud, as it is sponsered by the St. Cloud Times. In the past, the multi-regional event has been hosted by the Star Tribune, in Minneapolis.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
