Popular river boat cruise planned

When it comes to trips, the River Boat Cruise and Trolley Tour in Stillwater is still one of the favorites of our seniors, so mark your calendar for Sept. 5 so you won't miss this one.

Get up a little earlier that day as the bus leaves at 6:45 a.m. from the Wal-Mart parking lot. There will be a coffee stop on the way but as soon as we reach Stillwater, we'll hop on the boat for lunch as we cruise leisurely down the St. Croix River.

Back to shore, the group will split into two and take turns between a trolley tour and a little shopping in the downtown area. Departure from Stillwater will be around 4 p.m. and we will take time for supper enroute home. Estimated time of arrival back in Fergus Falls is 8:30 p.m.

Cost for this trip which includes transportation, lunch, boat and trolley tours is $55 for members and $60 non-members. Register by calling the senior office at 736-6842 and payment is due by Aug. 3.

While we are on the subject of trips, the Jasper Jubilee Theater trip on July 19 is full as is the Ottertail Lake Cruise on Aug. 16. If you wish to place your name on a waiting list in the event of cancellations, call the senior office.

Back to July and the next two weeks, we have John Armstrong at the Center at 10:30 a.m. on July 11, for ear wax and hearing aide cleaning by appointment. (736-6842)

On the 16th, at 1 p.m., it's sing-along time with Carol Grina and Vivian Kugler at the piano.

Jim Larsen will be entertaining with his accordion at 11 a.m. on the 17th, before the noon meal featuring lasagna.

Also on the 17th, the Kitchen Band, under the leadership of Vivian Kugler, plays at the Veterans' Home at 10:15 a.m. but they will be back to play at the Senior Center on Friday, the 20th, at 11:30 a.m.

A couple of reminders: The Red Hats are going to Bug-a-Boo Bay on the 12th for a Caribbean dinner. Register in the senior office.

"Ask the Attorney" with Jay Cichosz is scheduled for July 18 at 1 p.m. at the Senior Center — by appointment.

Community Ed is offering the eight-hour Driver Improvement Class on the 18th and 19th and the Refresheer on the 18th. Register and pay in Community Ed office. Cost $20 and $18, respectively. For more information, call 998-0544, Ext. 1600.

And don't forget the Concerts in Roosevelt Park: July 12 with the Detroit Lakes Native American "Drum and Dance" group and the 19th, folk music with David Stoddard. Food vendor for both events is Dairyland.

I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on the two concerts in which the Senior Center participated. Attendance was fabulous. The weather was perfect and who could resist those Underwood Lions pork chops. We ran out the first week and served 265 the second week.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
