Plenty happening at the Senior Center this month and next

It has been said that "smiles" is the longest word in the world because there is a "mile" between the first and last letter of the word.
I'm sure you have heard this before — but have you ever really given thought to how contagious a smile is? Smile at someone — known or unknown — and it is very unusual if you do not receive a smile in return.
Even when you are feeling a bit grumpy and you meet someone who smiles at you, don't you feel better? On a cloudy day, it's almost as though the sun is shining as you exchange a smile.
W.D. Nesbit summed it up rather well when he said, "The thing that goes the farthest toward making life worthwhile, that costs the least and does the most, is just a pleasant smile."
Looking at coming events, there is another Concert in Roosevelt Park next Thursday. Frank Weibl will provide the entertainment with jazz saxophone music and Kentucky Fried Chicken is the food vendor. An art activity is also planned for the entire family.
John Armstrong will be at the Senior Center on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 10:30 a.m. to check out your hearing aid. Hearing aids are very delicate instruments that require routine care and cleaning if they are to function properly. There is no charge for this but an appointment is necessary by calling 736-6842.
Those fun-loving Red Hat gals have a potluck picnic planned for Aug. 9 (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m. in N.P. Park on Vernon Avenue. Bring utensils and a dish to pass.
About trips: The Ottertail Lake Cruise on Aug. 16, is filled as is the Stillwater River Boat and Trolley Tour on Sept. 5, but if you wish to have your name placed on the waiting list in the event of cancellations, call the Senior Center office.
We have two trips scheduled for October. For your "sneak peak," they are Chanhassen Dinner Theater on the 17th and Geritol Frolics on the 26th. More details on this next week.
Meanwhile, don't forget — Keep smiling.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
