The Ottertail Business Person’s Association is busy preparing for the fifth annual Smokin’ Iron Truck and Tractor Pull — an event organizers said will be bigger, better and louder than ever before.
“This year we really would like to see 5,000 people in attendance each day,” Chairman Terry Wagenman said.
Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 15 and noon Saturday, June 16, with the pulls beginning at 7 p.m. both nights. This year’s later date for the pull is expected to lead to a larger field — as many as 80 pullers.
“It’s hard to believe this is the fifth year already,” Wagenman said. “But we’re working harder than ever to make sure this is the best one yet.”
Also new will be Grand National Heavy Super Stock Diesels competition. The Grand National Minis will be back this year, as well.
More than $50,000 in prize money to be awarded..
Activities surrounding the pull include a Pedal Pull for kids sponsored by the Perham Lions Club. Turtle races, a climbing wall and inflatables sponsored by the Perham Memorial Hospital will give the kids a place to burn some energy.
The Ottertail Lions Club is sponsoring a pancake feed at 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday. A dog pull is scheduled for both nights at 5 p.m.
Also new to 2007, is a brand new class. Grand National Heavy Super Stock Diesels. The Grand National Minis will be back this year, as well. Camping is available for $15 per night.
Tickets are $15 at the gate, $14 in advance. Children ages 5-10 get in for $7 and 4 and under are admitted free of charge.
There are season tickets available for both nights for $26. VIP tickets are good for both night’s gate admission, special VIP seating, and VIP food and beverage. The cost is $100 and only 100 will be sold.
