Otter Tail Lake boat cruise planned in August

I'm not sure what the weather will be on Saturday when you read this, but as I write this column earlier in the week, it is one of those very hot days with the temperature hovering in the 90s.
And I can think of nothing more enjoyable than a liesurely cruise on beautiful Otter Tail Lake — which is our scheduled trip for Thursday, Aug. 16.
Plans are to leave Fergus Falls from the Otter Tail Coaches parking lot at 11:30 a.m. We'll stop for lunch at Graystone before boarding the "big boat" for the two-hour tour of the lake.
Then, we will have one more stop on the way home — to top off the day with a Dairy Queen in Battle Lake.
Cost for this unique trip, which includes transportation and cruise fare, is $23 for members and $28 for non-members.
Please register in the senior office by July 19.
Looking at next week, we celebrate the birthdays of our members born in June at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Come, help them celebrate their special day. Make a reservation in advance and enjoy the noon meal featuring chicken strips.
We have another Concert in the Park on Thursday, the 28th, starting at 5 p.m. That's at Roosevelt Park and once again, the Underwood Lions will be on deck preparing their delicious pork chops as only they can.
Seniors will be serving and proceeds will go toward the Senior Activity Fund.
Close your eyes and pretend you are in the Caribbean as you listen the music of "Island Time." (In the event of rain, the "show" goes downtown to the Center for the Arts.)
If you have a yen for doing some card playing next week, here's your schedule: It's bridge on Tuesday, hand and foot on Wednesday and pinochle on Thursday — all at 1 p.m.
I'm not too familiar with Otto Van Isch, but he's the fellow who said: "I have yet to be bored by someone paying me a compliment." What do you think?

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
