David Malmberg and his sidekicks Leonard Cribble and Simon Spencer will be appearing Friday night only at the Bigwood Event Center. The event is open to the general public.
If you’re looking for big laughs this weekend, comic ventriloquist David Malmberg, performing at 8 p.m. Friday for Friday Night Live at the Bigwood Event Center may be the ticket.
“He’s not just entertaining,” Chamber of Commerce Director Lisa Workman said. “You can see his show and be comfortable with your co-workers. He’s not too racy; his show is somewhere between Disneyland and Las Vegas.”
Malmberg tests his audience, he said, regarding their range of tolerance.
“It can be Disney, who knows? I get a read from the audience, that’s a show biz thing, you know, and try to push the envelope a little. If they throw me out, I know I’ve pushed too hard. I do audience participation throughout the entire show, and the show ends with it.”
He was born into a family of professional musicians, beginning his musical education on the accordion and had added the guitar and ventriloquism by age thirteen.
His desire to learn the art of “voice transposition” was sparked watching ventriloquist Paul Winchell with his sidekick Jerry Mahoney on television at age six.
For the past 17 years Malmberg has crisscrossed the country with his show featuring comedy, storytelling, ventriloquism and music.
