Responders practice emergency skills on SimBaby

Published Thursday, March 29, 2007

Paramedics, paramedic students, physician and nurses were students involved in a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course conducted in Fergus Falls last weekend.

Randy Fischer, operations director for Ringdahl Ambulance Service coordinated the course and invited Barb Peterson from Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota to assist with the class by bringing a SimBaby.

SimBaby is a portable advanced infant patient simulator for team training. The doll has realistic anatomy and clinical functionality that enables simulation training and it includes software with video debriefing and an interactive technologically advanced manikin allowing learners to practice the emergency treatment of infant patients.

The device is a full scale-infant-patient simulator which allows the learner to perform advanced pediatric emergency skills and scenarios.

It has a realistic airway system which allows accurate simulation of all relevant difficult infant airway management and patient care scenarios.

It includes an IV training arm and IV/IO legs to provide practice of peripheral intravenous and intraosseus therapy.

Ringdahl Ambulance and Emergency Training Associates (ETA) have conducted a paramedic training program in Pelican Rapids over the last 12 months.

Students will complete the course during the first part of April with state and national testing to be certified as Nationally registered paramedics and begin working for our Ringdahl Ambulance service in Fergus Falls and Pelican Rapids.
