The annual meeting and election of the Fergus Falls Senior Citizens Program will be held Friday, May 11.

The terms of six members expire this year: Melvin Bjone, Mae Harthun, Vivian Kugler, Don Pederson, John Sanchez and May Wiese.

At the March meeting, the board of directors accepted the resignation of Darlene Berge. Someone will be elected to fulfill two years of her term. There are five incumbents and three additional nominees vying for the seven vacancies due to the late resignation.

They are Melvin Bjone, Mae Harthun, Vivian Kugler, Don Pederson, Loren Richards, Ruth Spidahl, Jim Tenneson and May Wiese. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted on the day of election.

Absentee ballots are allowed but must be returned to the office by 1 p.m. on May 11 to be counted.

Next Thursday is Red Hat Day. Don't forget the breakfast meeting at Debbie's Restaurant at 9:30 a.m.

If you are a gal over the age of 60, you are invited to join the group that celebrates the art of growing older and wiser with a youthful attitude.

A reminder that Kim Shea's exercise class for persons suffering from arthritis will begin on April 5 and continue from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Thursday mornings for eight weeks.

Learn the benefits of exercise and have fun doing it. There is no cost to participate.

A reminder, too, that Jackie Wenstrom, RN from Lake Region Hospital, will present a Stroke Awareness seminar at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 3. Discussion will center on signs and symptoms of stroke.

Make an advance reservation for the noon meal and stay for the chili afterward.

In observance of Good Friday on April 6, the Senior Center will be closed. However, a noon meal featuring tuna casserole will be served.

Best wishes for a Happy Easter.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
