Stella’s prepares for Wednesday opening

Published 12:00 p.m., May 1, 2007

Four months of building renovations are coming to an end as Sara and Nate Boyum of Battle Lake prepare to open Stella’s restaurant Wednesday in the building formerly occupied by Double R Cafe on Lake Avenue.

“We completely gutted the inside and have been working hard to put the finishing touches on what we feel will be a very good restaurant and bar and very nice addition to downtown Battle Lake,” Sara said.

They will employ close to 16 people and they look forward to a great summer season, as well as attracting customers during the fall, winter and spring.

The restaurant will be open Sunday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. The bar area, which will specialize in serving 70 different wines and imported beer, will be open two hours later than the restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays.

For early birds coming for breakfast, Sara, Nate and their staff will offer fresh baked goods such as bagels, croissants, muffins and rolls. They’re also proud of their new Espresso coffee bar. For lunch and dinner they’ll offer a variety of soups, salads and sandwiches.

“Our specialty for lunch and supper will be brick-oven pizza,” Sara said. “We’re confident this will be a real hit for people of all ages in our lakes area.”

The food business is nothing new to Sara. She has 17 years of previous experience in the restaurant business and worked six years selling for SYSCO, a food service company. Nate, when he’s not helping out at the restaurant, is busy as the owner of Artful Renovations which specializes in kitchen and bathroom remodeling along with plumbing.

Summer visitors will enjoy the option of dining outside on the patio near the restaurant. Combined with indoor seating, the Boyums and their staff at Stella’s will be able to serve close to 150 people at one time.

“And you’ll be able to order our brick-oven pizza anytime between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays,” Sara said. “We can’t wait for things to get started on Wednesday.”
