Commissioners to address drainage system project on South Turtle Lake

Published Wednesday, May 9, 2007

A follow up to the Turtle Lake storm water sewer system proposal highlighted Tuesday’s meeting of the County Commissioners.

Assistant Highway Engineer Chuck Grotte announced he had been meeting with local residents who would be impacted by the project and has hoped to meet everyone by the end of this week.

“Some people don’t see where the benefit is from the project,” Grotte said. “That’s why we pay them for an easement.”

The project will be an underground pipeline drainage system that will run from South Turtle Lake under State Highway 210 and ending in Pomme De Terre. There will be a control structure at the end of South Turtle for adjusting the down stream flow.

“We have to get this project done,” Commissioner Roger Froemming said.

The project is estimated to cost $350,000. The cost will be assessed to the landowners that will benefit from the entire project.

The methodology used to calculate the individual assessments was based upon the actual increase in market value of the property by having the storm sewer system in place.

A contractual timetable has the project scheduled for completion by August 1. Opening for bids on the project begins at 1 p.m., May 30. Bid information will be available on the county website.

The board also awarded county-wide traffic marking services project to Traffic Marking Service, Inc., a Maple Lake business. TMS, Inc. proposed the lowest bid of $209,653.46, roughly $6,000 below the engineer’s estimate for the project.
