Senior Center has plenty of gifts of the homemade kind

People are still raking leaves and as I was chatting with a friend a couple days ago, he remarked that he had mowed his lawn earlier that day. Wow. And today is Nov. 17. In another month and seven days, it will be Christmas Day. So how are you doing with the Christmas shopping?
Perhaps we could help you out with a few suggestions. It is surprising how often someone asks me about embroidered dish towels. We have them, hand embroidered, at the Senior Center. Another very popular item — small artificial flower arrangements by Gladys.
I have heard many ooh's and aah's as visitors walk past the flower displays. We also have hand-crafted wooden items and many, many other hand-made crafts.
If you are looking for something for an older person who is not a member of the Senior Center, a membership in the senior program would be ideal (a whole year for only $12). And that includes the "Senior Connection" each month and the "Golden Page," sent quarterly, plus special discounts on trips and the opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of new friends. Everyone (including seniors) enjoy a good meal without having to cook, so how about including some meal tickets? I'm sure they would be most welcome.
Taking a look at next week, we have Lyle Hoxtell, Otter Tail County Coordinator on Aging, scheduled for a seminar on Medicare and Part D on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
Lyle is probably one of the most knowledgeable people around on this subject and he will be explaining the new enrollment period as well as providing all of the necessary information needed to register. After his presentation, trained volunteers will be available to assist you.
Also on Tuesday, I will be visiting our Adopt-a-Class at Cleveland School at 1 p.m. These students are third graders of Lynette Ringquist. Each year every child in our Adopt-a-Class writes a brief article for the January issue of the "Golden Page," so we will be reviewing some of the tenets of writing and the students will share some of their ideas to be included in the paper.
Attorney Jamison Cichosz will be at the Senior Center on Nov. 28. Call 736-6842 for an appointment for a free legal consultation.
Next Thursday is Thanksgiving. The Senior Center will be closed for the holiday. On Friday, the office will be closed but a noon meal, featuring baked chicken, will be served.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
