Defibrillators approved for county sites

The County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of two new defibrillators to be placed at the Recycling Center and the South Court building.
Safety Director, Tiny Holm, approached the board requesting five units to include the two approved locations and one at county garages in the area.
The county currently has defibrillator units at the court house lunch room, the New York Mills office and the Government Services Center. Holm would also like to see a unit on the third floor of the court house. Patrol cars are also equipped with the units.
While none of the present units in county buildings have had to be used in cases of emergency, Holm insists the potential benefits outweigh the costs of more units or having none. Each unit costs $1,500.
“It’s a valuable tool,” Holm said. “We save lives with the help of defibrillators.”
