Pancake feed one signal of season’s change to autumn

There are many ways to identify seasonal changes of spring and fall but one event seems to herald the beginning of each and that is the pancake and sausage feed at the Senior Center. For the initiation of fall, we have scheduled Monday, Sept. 24, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. So gather up your friends and "relies" and join us. Cost is still the same: $4 in advance from any board member or in the senior office or $4.50 at the door for adults. For children, ages 5 to 10, it is $2 and those younger eat free.
Once again , there will also be a bake sale so plan to take home some of those delicious goodies too.
Now, back to next week as we continue the celebration of Senior Center month. We have our mini-resource fair featuring "Financial Options" on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., with a focus on financial strategies and options such as Social Security, long term care insurance, reverse mortgage and much more.
Entertainment for the week includes the music of Mona Bolinski, Gerry Drechsel and Charlene Hendrickx on Tuesday at 11 a.m. and Jim Buckley at the piano on Thursday.
September birthdays will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on the 20th. Make an advance reservation and enjoy the pork roast noon meal afterward.
Mary Jane Hay from the Area Agency on Aging will be at the Senior Center for another Senior Surf class to guide you in surfing the Internet and gaining access to important web sites. Class is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sept. 25. There is no cost but registration is required by the 24th.
"Ask the Attorney" is on Sept. 26 at 1 p.m., and Medication Management on the 27th from 9 a.m. to noon. Both require appointments so check to see if there are still openings.
October trips — Chanhassen on the 17th to see "Les Miserables" and Brainerd on the 26th for "Geritol Frolics" are both filled, but call 736-6842 to be placed on a waiting list in the event of cancellations.
The leaves are beginning to fall and soon it will be time for fall clean-up. Call the Center for Chore Corps assistance.
Finally, last but certainly not least — you probably have already read the good news on the front page of Tuesday's Daily Journal. It's official. The Fergus Falls Senior Citizens Program has been re-accredited for another five years.
This means we have met the nine standards developed by the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) and passed an on-site review. We received our initial accreditation in 2002, as the first senior center to be accredited in Minnesota and continue as the only accredited senior center in the state.
This is truly an honor and attests to the high quality of programming and governance of the Fergus Falls Center.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
