A really big weekend is rapidly approaching and we don’t want you to miss out on any part of it.
On Sept. 28, 29 and 30, “Songs from the Tall Grass” returns from a very successful tour that has included 10 Midwest communities and audiences exceeding all expectations.
And they’re loving the show and the fact that it has come from Fergus Falls. Please tell your friends and relatives to join you for this last weekend of production.
Also, next weekend is homecoming for Fergus Falls High School so it just seems right that it’s a coming home for a lot of folks — cast and band and crew included.
Plus, we’ve got something for everyone to do every day next weekend.
In addition to “Songs from the Tall Grass,” we’ve got the Fergus Falls Area Art Crawl on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28 and 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Maps and brochures are available at A Center for the Arts. This year’s art crawl includes studios and galleries throughout Fergus Falls and beyond.
Artists included on the crawl are: Anna Ness, Jeff Zachmann, Marion Otnes, Maxine Adams, Stephen Henning, John Olesen, Carol Ulrich, Sara Talsness, Chuck Christianson, Charlotte Lewis, Dennis Martz, Kate Sherfenberg, Sean Scott, Kely Wakely, Lance Albers, Carissa Baez, Kirk Williams, Gaylen Peterson, Eric Santwire, Karan Ouren, and Emily Williams Wheeler.
Some of them can be seen in their own studios.
Others will be featured in the following galleries and visual arts spaces: Lake Region Arts Council, A Center for the Arts, The Kaddatz Hotel Gallery (which is also being expanded to upstairs), Minnesota State Community and Technical College and Gallery, and Lake Region Hospital Gallery.
In addition, we’ve got two concerts as part of an extended weekend. On Sunday, Sept. 30, the beloved Finnish Fiddling Group, JPP will be at the Community College, Waage Center at 2 p.m.
These folks are part of a “Coming Home” celebration of sorts, too, they were here about eight years ago as part of a Nordic Roots tour which they’ve come back for in the Twin Cities.
They’re squeezing Fergus Falls in en route to Canada.
Oct. 1 — Cast and crew from “Songs from the Tall Grass” will be performing a sort of “Bon Voyage” concert and everyone is invited.
Cost is a “free will” donation. There are so many talented people in this cast who can do a lot more than just sing and act in “Tall Grass.” Randy Sabien is an incredible jazz violinist.
Randy Hale is quite a wonderful pianist and singer.
Then there’s David Stoddard and all the great music he does and Anthony Miltich and Debi Kilde and on and on.
But, we promise, the concert won’t go on and on, it will be a nice evening of music and fun and a great way to send this great cast on to their next adventures.
Looking ahead: Oct. 4, The Rose Ensemble; Oct. 5, Talk of the Town; Oct. 14, Pam Chabora and The Belle of Amherst (a one woman show about Emily Dickinson); Oct. 21, Butch Thompson Trio; Oct. 23 (tentative) FM Opera, Mikado highlights; Oct. 25, Violinist Midori. Oct. 27, Debra Fraser Visit; Nov. 1, Gales of Nov.; Nov. 2, Bill Staines. That’s probably enough for you to wrestle with for now.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
