The defunct Speedway Restaurant will be reopening again soon.

A year and half after closing his Fergus Falls restaurant, Curt Burdick is putting Speedway back on track.

“We’re going to re-open it and we’re going to change up the menu a bit,” said Burdick, who’s owned the Speedway property since his restaurant closed. The building is adjacent to Burger King off of Lincoln Avenue.

“I’m probably going to try to get it open by mid-May,” Burdick said.

Before then, he will give the building a facelift of sorts, revamping the kitchen and installing new carpet. Speedway’s menu will include new selections like pasta and seafood, as well as traditional favorites like ribs and steak.

Burdick said there were a number of factors that influenced Speedway’s closing, including construction along the road leading to the restaurant.

It didn’t help that Burdick was spread thin as the owner of several other properties, including Speedways in Minot, Moorhead and West Fargo.

“Since then I’ve sold out everything and I’m going to come in and manage it myself,” he said.

“I’ve just had a change of heart.”

Burdick said he expects to hire 45 to 50 staff in the coming weeks.

Speedway opened in Fergus Falls in 2002 as a sports-themed bar and restaurant.
