PR crash victims are recovering

Published Thursday, April 10, 2008

Two injured students from Saturday’s fatal Pelican Rapids band bus crash remain hospitalized, however, they are improving, according to the school district Web site.

Amy Davenport has an L2 fracture in her back and may need to wear a back brace for the next several months, but she hopes to return home this week, and has visited with Hannah Klovstad, also injured in the crash.

Hannah was moved from ICU and has been removed from morphine, though she remains on pain pills. A tube is still in her lung and her spleen is healing. She is hospitalized at North Memorial Hospital, 3300 Oakdale Ave North, Robbinsdale, MN 55422.

Hannah sustained five broken ribs when the bus she was riding in — one of two returning from a trip to Chicago, Ill. — left the Interstate near Albertville Saturday morning. She was one of about 45 students on the bus at the time.

Many of the students were treated and released; one student, Jessica Weishair, died at the scene.

Another student, Haley Hoyer, had been hospitalized but has since been released and has returned home.

Jessica Weishair’s funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, in the Pelican Rapids School gymnasium. Elementary students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. Friday and the high school will let out at noon to allow students to attend the funeral.
