Wild Oats Open kicks off outdoor season

The Fergus Falls Otters captured top honors in nine events Tuesday as the annual Wild Oats Open gave a co-ed field a taste of outdoor competition.

The exhibition meet saw Susie Kitzman surprising the Otters by winning the high jump with a 4-8 effort.

The Otters spread their firsts around with six other girls joining Kitzman with individual firsts.

Kylie Zenner dropped time in the 400 to win the event with a 1:03.40.

Other firsts went to Lizzy Link in the 200 (28.59), Whitney Moore in the 100 (13.52), Amanda Lewis in the triple jump (29-11.5), Hannah Draxten in the 300 hurdles (51.62) and Sarah Erickson in the 100 hurdles (16.16).

Niki Welde’s Fergus girls dominated the 100 and 200 dash events. Moore and Link went 1-2 in the 100 dash while CallieAnn Hoffbeck and Karlee Kosak joined Link in the top three of the 100 dash.

The Otters also won the 4x100 with 53.88 and dominated the 4x400 with a time of 4:19.89.

Mike Peterson’s Perham girls also had a good Wild Oats Open as they won six events.

Toni Asmund set the pace in the 800 (2:25.70) while Abby Anderson won the 1,600 (5:29.63), Maddie Covington won the 3,200 (11:43.0), Heather Schultz won the shot put (36-5) and Elisa Moenkedick claimed the discus (112-6).

The Yellowjackets won the 4x800 with a 10:43.

Sadie Ellenson gave Otter Tail Central a first in the long jump as she went over the 15-foot mark with a 15-01.5.

Hillcrest’s Rhoda Christenson gave the Comets a runner-up finish in the 1,600 with a 5:48.21.

Fergus’ Jason Adelsman and Perham’s Eddie Stenger were both double winners in the boys’ meet.

Adelsman defeated teammate Simon Erlandson to take first in the high jump by clearing the bar at six feet. Erlandson went 5-10. Adelsman also won the long jump with a 20-6 effort.

Fergus’ Chase Kolle set the pace in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16:45.

The Otters also racked up a victory in the 4x100 with a time of 46.95.

Stenger won the 800 with a 2:03.17 and then came back to take the 1,600 with a 4:26.

Perham distance star Kevin Lachowitzer was a seven-second winner over teammate Justin Tellinghuisen in the 3,200 run.

Jacob Hunter edged Fergus Falls’ Cody Peck for the 200 dash title. Hunter’s run was timed at 24.57 while Peck came in with a 24.58.

Aaron Christenson combined with Andrew Hohncke, Josh Kugler and Josh Olsoe to give Hillcrest’s 4x100 relay team a third-place time of 48.30.

Peck placed in the top three in three events. In addition to the 200, Peck was second in the 400 with a 54.16 and third in the discus with a toss of 104 feet. Teammate Preston Anderson was right behind Peck in the discus with a 103-1.

Fergus’ Thomas Logan was runner-up to Breckenridge/Campbell-Tintah’s Casey Lipp in the 100 dash with a 11.69. Lipp ran the race in 11:53.

The Otters will compete in the Moorhead Invite Friday at Concordia.
