Comets crush Knights; Nelson fires no-hitter

BARRETT — Sam Hanson tossed a shutout for the Hillcrest Comets Thursday as they defeated the West Central Area Knights 12-0.

Hanson allowed only five hits. Tawneke Cloud went 3-for-4 scoring three runs as Hanson and Liz Listor each had three hits as well. Kylie Howe and Hilary Ouse had two hits apiece.

“The girls played an outstanding game defensively against a strong WCA team and our bats continued to stay hot,” said Hillcrest head coach Tim Jensen.

Otter Tail Central 3, Verndale 0

VERNDALE — Carley Nelson threw her second career no-hitter for the Bulldogs.

Nelson went the distance on the mound fanning 11 batters. She was very productive offensively going 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Toni Hagen went 1-for-3 driving in two runs for the Bulldogs.

“Carley did a nice job, but without great defense things like this don’t happen,” said OTC head coach Eric Olson. The Bulldogs advance to 2-0 on the season as they play in the Minnewaska Tournament on Saturday.

ORTONVILLE — Danielle Holcomb struck out nine as the Arrows improved to 2-0.

Gina Mickelson went 2-for-3 for the Arrows while Amanda Johnson hit a two-run homer.

Emily Johnson and Josie Kent backed up Holcomb with two defensive gems.

DGF 5, Perham 4

GLYNDON — Perham’s Mallory Malikowski fanned eight, tripled and drove in two runs in a 5-4 loss to the Rebels.

Abbi Paulseth collected two hits for Perham.
