The white stuff is almost all gone and I think we can safely say that spring is really on the way.
You are perhaps aware that April has been designated as volunteer recogniton month. We rely heavily on our volunteers at the Senior Center and April 28 has been chosen as the day to recognize our volunteers for their many hours of dedicated service. There will be entertainment, refreshments, gifts of appreciation and door prizes.
So, if you have been a volunteer at the Senior Center, you are most cordially invited to attend and we hope to see you at 1 p.m.
The attendance was excellent for our trip to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre last Saturday and though no trip is planned for the month of May, we do have plans completed for the Woodtick Theater in Akeley on June 18.
This is one of those trips loaded with comedy and music that afterward leaves everyone with the feeling that "a good time was had by all."
The bus leaves at 10:30 a.m. from the Otter Tail Coaches parking lot. The matinee is scheduled for 3 p.m. but prior to that, we're having a late lunch at Brauhaus German Restaurant.
After the show, we'll stop at Elmer's Texas Barbeque for supper on the way home and we should arrive back in Fergus Falls about 8:30 p.m. Cost of this trip, which includes transportation and matinee, is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. Please register and pay in the senior office by May 16.
If it is time to renew the discount on your auto insurance, Community Education is offering the Driver Improvement Refresher course on April 24 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the ALC and again on the 28th at the Public Library from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Register and pay the $18 fee at the Community Ed office. (998-0544, Ext. 1600)
The Defensive Driving Refresher course will be offered on April 28 at the Armory from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. with retired State Trooper Dave Bulik as your instructor.
Register for this one at the Senior Center (736-6842) but pay the $15 fee in class.
April birthdays of our members will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, the 24th. Come join the celebration. Make an advance reservation and stay for the noon meal of meatballs.
And a reminder — Don't forget the pancakes and sausage feed at the Senior Center next Monday (the 21st) from 3:30 to 7 p.m.
And one more thing — If you have something for the Golden Page, be sure to drop it off in the senior office by April 23.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
