Comets win third straight

Sam Hanson threw her third consecutive shutout of the week Friday as the Hillcrest Comets trampled the Wheaton Warriors 14-0 in five innings.

Hanson struck out 10 batters, allowed one walk and three hits.

Hanson also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs while Liz Listor went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Bekka Abel chipped in going 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the game.

“Our girls swung the bats well and played outstanding defense,” said Hillcrest head coach Tim Jensen.

The Comets are now 3-0 as they head to Bertha-Hewitt Saturday.

Hawley 5, Pelican Rapids 3

PELICAN RAPIDS — A four-run inning lifted the Nuggets over the Vikings.

Hawley started the second inning with three players being walked and then their catcher hit a single for two RBIs. With two on base the center fielder knocked a double in the gap for two more RBIs.

The Nuggets came up with three consecutive singles in the fifth inning to score one more run.

Pelican’s Steph Torkildson scored when Kassey Arntson singled up the middle and was later hit in by Katlin Sillerud on a single.

Amy Field got a lead off double in the fifth and scored when Torkildson reached on a single.

Pelican Rapids will head to Frazee for a tournament on Saturday.

BARRETT — Kayla Andreasen went 3-for-4 and singled in Caitlin Peterson in the bottom of the seventh as the Knights topped the Chargers.

Peterson also drove in two runs. Winning pitcher Taylor Brekke supported her own cause by going 2-for-4 with two ribbies.

The Knights overcame a rough first inning that saw them commit three errors and fall behind 3-0.

Brekke led off the seventh with a single, Paige Sierakowski put down a sacrifice bunt, Peterson doubled to tie the game and Andreasen singled her home.
