Otters bow to Brainerd

BRAINERD — Southpaw Ethan Branum fired a three-hitter Friday as Brainerd blanked Fergus Falls 5-0.

Nate Smolke delivered a two-run triple in the third for Brainerd’s game-winning hit.

Branum fanned six and walked two. Fergus hurlers Jake Heck and Joe Anderson combined for six strikeouts and surrendered four walks.

Heck, Anderson and Chris Anderson came up with Fergus’ three hits.

The Otter JV team lost 6-1 while the freshmen fell 5-1 and 14-1.

The Otters will host Sauk Rapids Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Spartans capitalized on Jamie Stedjan’s control problems to blank the Comets at Legion Field.

Six walks and three hit batsmen hurt the Comets in the second and fourth innings.

Jeremy Westerman fired a two-hitter for C-A. Westerman fanned six in five innings of work. Mike Iverson and Ethan Wentzel collected Hillcrest’s two hits.

Tim Erickson was strong in a relief role as he shut the Spartans down over the final 3 1/3 innings.

OSAKIS — Blake Schmidt collected three hits and drove in three runs and Tyler Anderson homered as the Knights topped the Silverstreaks.

Dan Grout and Alan Strom both scored two runs for WCA.

The Silverstreaks scored all seven of their runs over the last four innings.
