Otters take second in DL tourney

DETROIT LAKES — Renee Erickson’s Fergus Falls Otters lost an 8-2 decision to Brainerd Saturday in the championship game of the eight-team Detroit Lakes Tournament.
Cristina Masten led the Otters in the title game with two RBIs. Aly Erickson and Mariah Monke combined for seven strikeouts.
Kate Angulski went 3-for-4 and scored three times while Masten and Abby Springer combined for four hits and three ribbies as Fergus took the opener 7-4 over Detroit Lakes. Aimee Magnusson fanned five in gaining the win.
Erickson scattered eight hits and Erin Beck went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the Otters beat Moorhead 4-1 in Game 2.
The Otters played the tournament with a number of junior varsity players in the lineup due to a choir trip to New York,
The Otters will travel to Sauk Rapids Tuesday.
Bulldogs capture Minnewaska Tourney
GLENWOOD — The Bulldogs went 3-0 to take top honors in the Minnewaska Tournament.
Carley and Lindsay Nelson combined for five hits, three RBIs and two runs as Otter Tail Central defeated Minnewaska 6-2 in the title game.
Carley Nelson went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run as the Bulldogs opened the tournament by pounding Atwater-Grove City-Cosmos 11-3.
Kelsey Koep went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
OTC won the second game 8-3 over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg despite collecting only four hits.
Aann Bjorklund earned two pitching decisions for OTC while Carley Nelson won the third.
The Bulldogs, now 5-0, will travel to Breckenridge Monday.
Comets sweep Bears
BERTHA — The undefeated Hillcrest crew swept a pair of games from Bertha-Hewitt Saturday beating the Bears 8-7 and 14-5.
Liz Listor and Kylie Howe both went 3-for-4 in Game 1. Listor also scored three times while Howe drove in three runs.
Sam Hanson went 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs in Game 2. Hilary Ouse went 3-for-4 with two runs. Tawneke Cloud and Paige Stier-Jensen both went 2-for-4 and combined for four ribbies.
Hanson was the winner in both games. She fanned eight while walking only one in the opener. Hanson fanned five and walked one in Game 2.
“The girls played very well and were determined to end the week strong,” said Hillcrest skipper Tim Jensen.
