Shorland ordinance

Land & Resource Director Bill Kalar informed the county board that the revised Shoreland Management Ordinance will be effective May 1, 2008. A public hearing for lake reclassifications will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June, 3, at the county board room in the Government Services Center.

Work release

County Detention Facility Administrator Richard Akerman recommended, and the county commission concurred, the extension of a work release program in coordination with the State of Minnesota. The extension runs from July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009.

Under certain conditions, an incarcerated individual can serve the final six months of his or her term — with the state reimbursing the county — under a work release program in Otter Tail County. In most cases the inmate would be released to work during the day and return to the detention center at night.

In these cases, Otter Tail County works with the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC).

Earth Day

The County Board went on record in recognizing Tuesday, April 22, as Earth Day. The late U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson, Wisconsin, is responsible for having developed Earth Day. Each year, since 1970, celebrations of Earth Day have taken place in Minnesota and across the nation.

Comments

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
