Contaminated milk case investigated

Contaminated milk hauled by truck in mid-February from Bluffton in east central Otter Tail County to Melrose, where the contamination was discovered, may possibly be linked to two dairy cows that had previously received antibiotics.
The milk came from a dairy farm rented in the Bluffton area by Bruce Friest who also farms near Wadena. After the contamination was discovered, the milk was removed from the truck at the milk plant in Melrose. The plant also took care of the proper disposal of the milk.
The dollar amount of the milk, close to $8,900, will likely be covered by insurance, Friest said. He contacted authorities in Otter Tail County, as a matter of proper procedure and for public record.
Milk is checked by milk plants and by Offices of Dairy Services in various states, including Minnesota, for violable residues.
