Ariana Odegard and Wes Green are juniors at Underwood High School. They are two of the 12 people from the community that traveled to Haiti in early March.

Twelve people from the Underwood community traveled to Haiti on a missionary trip.

Haiti is a country filled with poverty and despair. When they first arrived, they were completely blown away. Children and cattle walked alongside the runway as we were landing. No big fences or patrols to keep people out.

As they headed through downtown, they saw everything from “Tap-Taps” carrying a dozen or more people to a tiny moped hauling a washing machine home. They had arrived in northern Haiti to help the locals get access to fresh drinking water.

Along with well drilling, they worked at the clinic, helped in constructing a new seminary, and distributed food to people living in the mountains. The trip was a life changing experience for them.

The group invites you to hear the rest of their story on Sunday, April 27 at the Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood.

They will be serving a free-will pork chop dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. There will also be a silent auction with many souvenirs from Haiti.

At 6 p.m. they will have a program, hearing from several members of this year’s mission team.

There will be plenty of time to ask any questions you may have about our mission.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

This is such a heartwarming story, it's too bad the grammar is so distracting. DJ team, is this article written in first person or third? Make a decision, then write an article.

I can't believe that "justme" would be so petty as to find fault in such a "heartwarming" story! This was a very important event in the lives of two teens and maybe our world would be a better place if we stopped finding fault in the little things and started appreciating what the purpose was in this event in the first place. Way to make our world a better place - Underwood teens!!!!
