Spartans gain split with Cyclones

Published Thursday, April 24, 2008

ST. CLOUD — The Minnesota State CTC Spartans set themselves up for a decisive weekend by gaining a split Wednesday with St. Cloud Tech.

Jamie Jacklitch scattered five hits and the Spartans pounded out 12 as the MSCTC crew won the opener 6-2.

Jake Leuschke and Seth Hamman had two hits and two RBIs for the Spartans. Bryan Rocheleau and Matt Schornack also laced two hits apiece.

Jacklitch walked four and fanned five.

A throwing error brought home Cole Kotschevar with the winning run as the Cyclones snatched the nightcap 5-4.

The Spartans pushed two runs across in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4. Cody Curry reached second on an error with one out and Leuschke singled him home. After Jacklitch flied to right, Schornack singled in Leuschke.

Schornack had two hits and two RBIs while Jake Erickson came up with two hits. Joe Copas hit a solo shot.

“We got pretty good pitching and we did a much better job of swinging the bat,” said MSCTC head coach Kent Bothwell.

The Spartans are now 7-7 and will reach for a state berth this Saturday and Sunday when they face Central Lakes and Anoka-Ramsey.
