Brandon-Evansville came away with a wild 10-8 win over Hillcrest on a cold, windy night at Legion Field.
Tom Sullivan and Kyle Walter each singled twice and scored two runs a piece in the first two innings. Kullin Erickson knocked in two more with a double as the Chargers jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Two errors later in the inning brought two more runs home and an error in the third brought the lead to 10-0.
By the time the sixth inning came around, the Comets began to heat up at the plate, scoring seven times in the inning including a bomb by Tim Erickson over the center field fence which cut the deficit to 10-8.
In the seventh, Hillcrest loaded the bases and seemed to be on the trail of a comeback, but reliever Trent Hintermeister was able to work out of the jam and earn the save.
Pitching the first three innings for the Comets was Nolan Erickson. Tim Erickson who pitched four stellar innings of work allowing just two hits and only one run. Erickson also took the loss for the Comets.
The Comets drop to 1-4 as Brandon-Evansville’s record goes to 2-2.
The next scheduled action for the Comets is Friday at home against Ashby.
