The West Otter Tail County Dairy Princess contest was held Sat, April 5 at Sverdrup Church in Underwood. Crowned the 2008 West Otter Tail Dairy princesses April 5 were Rebekah Frietag of rural Elizabeth, and Hana Cardwell and Melissa Curfman, both of Pelican Rapids.

Dairy Princesses serve as goodwill ambassadors for the dairy industry. The candidates were judged upon a personal interview and a prepared speech on a dairy-related topic.

These candidates are eligible and encouraged to attend a statewide Dairy Promotion Training Seminar planned at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph May 16-17, where they will learn lifelong skills in areas such as public speaking, media relations and dairy message delivery.

To schedule a visit with a dairy princess, contact Princess Coordinator, Darla Marty at 218-736-2608.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
